About Milan IMS
The International Medical School (IMS) is the English-taught Medicine and Surgery programme of the University of Milan — UNIMI or "La Statale", the largest university in Lombardy with around 64,000 students. Launched in 2010, it has been based at the modern LITA campus in Segrate since 2014.
IMS leads to a single-cycle Laurea Magistrale in Medicine and Surgery (LM-41): 360 credits over six years, taught entirely in English. The curriculum is built around integrated blocks/modules — closer to North-American medical schools — with heavy emphasis on problem-based learning, early research-lab exposure and a "bench-to-bedside" approach. It is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools and recognised by the WHO.

Admission & IMAT Requirements
Admission is by the national IMAT, set yearly by the Ministry (MUR). It is the same exam, on the same day, for every Italian public university with an English medical curriculum, and seats are allocated strictly by IMAT ranking.

Milan IMS is regularly the most competitive medical seat in Italy. Since admission is purely by IMAT ranking, the "minimum" is just the score of the last admitted candidate — and it shifts every year. The non-EU minimum has climbed sharply:

Curriculum & Program Structure
Two phases: a preclinical stage (Years 1–2) of foundational sciences, then a clinical stage (Years 3–6) of rotations across Milan's hospitals. Grading is Italian-style: 18 to pass, 30 e lode maximum.

Recognition & Licensing
The IMS degree is awarded by a public Italian university and listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools (WHO-recognised). It qualifies graduates to practise across the EU and to pursue residency, the School of General Medicine, or a PhD after the relevant national steps.
To practise in Italy, graduates register with the Ordine dei Medici after the qualifying evaluation internship. Recognition outside the EU depends on the destination country's medical authority — so map your target country's licensing route early.
